Amazônia In Five Minutes ENG #06

Notas do episódio

This week, the Brazilian Prosecution Service (MPF) filed a lawsuit against Minister Ricardo Salles, who was accused of destroying environmental protections and being directly responsible for dismantling the country's environmental protection system. This has caused an increase in deforestation, fires, illegal mining and land grabbing. In this episode, we also hear from one of the executive coordinators of the Joint Venture of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (Apib), Kretã Kaingang, about the president's vetoes against human rights, which effect issues such as access to drinking water, hygiene and hospital beds for indigenous people. On the same subject, on July 8, Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, of The Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF), determined that the Federal Government must adopt measures to protect indigenous communities and prevent mortality from the new coronavirus. The decision is preliminary and meets the lawsuit filed by Apib. The musical tip this week is from singer, songwriter and guitarist Ben Charles, from Roraima. His music mixes Caribbean, Amazon and pop culture, in a unique result. The musician has a YouTube channel. The podcast is yet another aspect of Amazonia Latitude’s mission: to expand the critical debate about the forest and publicize its cultural diversity, its natural wealth and its dilemmas. It is available on the player above, on Deezer, Apple Podcasts and Spotify. To browse all episodes, click here.
