Your Web Server Just Ran whoami. Now What? (RCE for Blue Teams)

Your web server just ran whoami. Nobody on your team typed it.That single line in a process log is what remote code execution (RCE) looks like from the defender's side. In this video, we break RCE down the way a blue team actually works it: what it is, how the attack unfolds, how to check whether you're exposed, how to fix it, and how to detect it while it's happening. If you come from IT, most of the skills involved are skills you already use: process trees, service accounts, firewall rules, and log queries.📖 Full written guide (code examples, Kubernetes hardening config, and a Sigma rule you can adapt):https://blueteam-academy.com/blog/detect-remote-code-execution/📬 Keep IT Safe, the Blue Team Academy newsletter:https://go.blueteam-academy.com/keep-it-safe-signup🛡️ From IT to Cybersecurity, our program built on the Threat & Control Method:https://go.blueteam-academy.com/from-it-to-cybersecurity/🔎 Breach Files: how an Apache Struts RCE led to the Equifax breach:https://blueteam-academy.com/breaches/equifax-data-breach-explained/CHAPTERS0:00 Your web server just ran whoami0:50 What remote code execution actually is2:16 How an RCE attack unfolds (5 steps)4:06 The 5 most common RCE vectors4:17 1.
