#7: 5G AMERICAS - The Digital Divide and the outbreak

Notas do episódio

Will this problem, which is one of the most discussed topics in Latin America and the Caribbean, be aggravated by the pandemic or not? In a region where countries reach frightening rates of poverty that can reach up to 40%, the isolation and differentiated demand for connectivity at this historic moment further highlight social and digital differences. Jose Otero, Vice president of Latin America and the Caribbean at 5G Americas, told us how the digital divide is evident in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. For him, this situation highlights the differences that previously plagued the region and that governments were no longer aware of these social and digital inequalities in previous moments. The problem of the digital divide is part of an even bigger problem: of poverty and development.
