[Inglês] Claude Moraes sobre refugiados e a “Europa fortaleza” (Entrevista)

Notas do episódio

[English] While Europe seems, with each piece of legislation, to solidify the “fortress” it is surrounded by, leaving out those fleeing death, the crossings have become increasingly dangerous. According to the United Nations, while in 2015 one in 42 people who tried to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe died, in 2018 the figure was one in 18. More than 2,000 have disappeared, six a day. On March 28, we interviewed Claude Moraes, a British MEP from the Labour Party. He was first elected in 1999, and since 2014 has been chairman of the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee, where refugee legislation has been discussed. Claude is an immigrant himself, and has been working on refugee and migration issues since he began his political life. We talked about the walls Europe has built, Frontex's increased powers, the EU's agreement with Turkey on refugees, the persecution of NGOs rescuing people in the Mediterranean Sea and Brexit.
