Smart City Secret Weapon: Why Master Data Management is the Key to Escaping Data Chaos

Notas do episódio

Smart Cities promise to transform urban life through the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, and IoT devices. However, why do so many of these initiatives fail to deliver on their potential? The answer lies in the lack of a reliable and shared data foundation. This episode explores Master Data Management (MDM) — a crucial strategic governance discipline, traditionally used in the private sector, but now emerging as the essential infrastructure for urban data analysis. We’ll discuss how MDM addresses the dilemma of being “data-rich but information-poor” by ensuring interoperability, reliability, and consistency of data across fragmented systems and municipal agencies. Discover the persistent challenges, such as institutional silos and cultural resistance, and the need for an iterative and gradual implementation for MDM to succeed in building more sustainable and resilient urban development.
