“WE ARE NOT BORN A WOMAN, WE BECOME A WOMAN”. THE FAMOUS PHRASE OF FRENCH PHILOSOPHER SIMONE DE BEAUVOIR CONTAINS THE DEFINITION OF GENDER. IT MEANS THAT IT IS A SOCIAL CONSTRUCTION, STRENGTHENED BY CULTURE AND WHICH HAS BEEN HISTORICALLY MAINTAINED FOR MILLENNIUMS. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PEOPLE'S SEX. Sex is the anatomical classification of people as male, female, or intersex, usually attributed to birth. Intersex describes people who naturally develop sexual characteristics that do not fit typical notions of female or male sex, do not fully develop like either, or develop a combination of both. The social construction of gender relations has been taking place unequally, placing women in a condition of inferiority to men, in terms of power and opportunities, with serious consequences for society as a whole, the main one being gender violence.
