President Lula's victory brought us back the joy and hope of recovering and expanding achievements and rights, as the democratic state was somehow destroyed with arbitrary and nefarious actions by the previous government. The previous government deliberated racist, misogynistic, LGBTphobic, violent actions as a political strategy, which was followed by a part of the population that supported it. There is an urgent need to recover the institutional functioning of the Brazilian state as prescribed by the Federal Constitution of 1988, the most democratic of all Brazilian Constitutions, and which has been hard hit and deconstructed. We have to take advantage of the newly conquered spaces, reorganize our demands, update priorities, recognize democratic values and demand practices in accordance with the principles of equality, dignity, transparency, coherence and justice.
