Cerrado: espécies em extinção.

Notas do episódio

The Cerrado has more than a thousand species threatened with extinction. This is the second largest number among biomes, just behind the Atlantic Forest. Of the 3,300 species threatened with extinction in Brazil, almost 20% are in the Cerrado, which is the second largest biome in the country. The Atlantic Forest is home to 25% of the species at risk. Of the species at risk in the Cerrado, 308 are fauna (animals) and 753 are flora (plants) - 88% are terrestrial. “The Cerrado is a very important biome. It is in the center of the country, has three large hydrographic basins that connect other regions and has its own fauna and flora ”. The Cerrado has lost 50% of coverage in recent decades in an intensified process, mainly after the construction of the federal capital. Vegetation cover has also reduced in recent years. Brazilian biomes have recently lost around 500,000 km² of their natural cover. The Cerrado lost about 153 thousand km² of natural coverage, the second largest loss in the country. The Amazon is the first - the largest biome in Brazil, which has shrunk almost 270,000 km². Taken together, the two areas represent 86% of the total lost across the country in the past eight years. Among the most endangered species is the maned wolf. In addition, recent research also points out that the Caatinga had almost 400 endangered species. The Pampas region, on the other hand, has almost 200 species at risk.
